Babies - Week 47 - June 6 - June 12

Dear Poohsters --

This is the first full week of beautiful weather -- it is like the weather fairy turned on the warm weather dial.  We were pleased but have talked with the fairy about keeping it a bit cooler.  With the heat index it was probably close to 95 Saturday.  Thank goodness Dada installed the A/C units!  With each of you having your own rooms soon, we ordered you A/Cs too.

On the subject of installing, Elizabeth's Dad, Peter, created a beautiful mantel extension/fireplace cover in the kids' day nursery -- and Elizabeth's Mom, Carolyn, sewed a padded and quilted aquarium over.  The room is more bright, kid-friendly and best of all, safe for both of you.  Now Mommy and Dada need to stain the mantel extension to match the wood.  Boy are we lucky to have Elizabeth watch you both and her parents too, as talented folks.  And Mommy is especially glad for Elizabeth as she cooks sweet potatoes, potatoes, star pasta, and cuts up bananas for your finger-food pleasure.

The lilacs, irises, lupines, bleeding hearts, and many other plants are blooming and several others are soon to bloom.  Hopefully James, who helped Mommy at the Summer Place gardens, will come over to identify plants and help us with finding a weeder.  The dandelions are in full force -- they grow them big in Falmouth!

Mommy's MRI results show a large herniated disc at L5/S1 (the last disc).  It appears to be kidney shaped. After consulting with an orthopedic surgeon, Mommy and Dada decided to think about his recommended options -- do nothing (and maybe it would heal on its own) or have surgery.  Neither sound appealing to Mommy who just wants the numbness, pins/needles, and pain to go away now.  Mommy goes back to the doctor in a month so the California trip in July is on hold for the time being (as Mommy is not sure that she can sit on the plane for five plus hours).

A new washer was delivered last week and the dryer came this week.  We gave away more of the clothes you both have outgrown to Susan at Home Health, including your first winter prams, Mommy's favorite poodle outfits of yours, Grace, and several outfits for both of you.  Hopefully the clothes will go to families who are in need.

Mommy managed to get nearly all of the basement unpacked.  In fact, the two built-in china cabinets are filled as is the china hutch.  The dining room is ready for a new table, chairs and area rug.  We just need time to figure out what we want to purchase -- and we should do it soon, as Harry seems to think that this room is his when you both are in your high chairs.  We also organized/cleaned out the backyard shed, vacuumed the attic (of the hundreds of dead flies), cleaned the garage again, and began weeding/raking in earnest (on the side of the house).

We resigned ourselves to not being able to get to allllll the painting that remains done -- and yet still enjoy the summer so we hired two painters to paint the new windows and various trim (crown molding, floor molding, and window frames/sills).  Aaron and Nate started working Saturday morning and made great progress in your room, Grace -- and then encountered latex paint over oil-based paint.  Ugh -- they are scrapping and peeling paint off before being able to cover again -- this really lengthens the time it will take to get your rooms done and maybe much of the trim in the house.

We love you,

Mommy and Dada
