Week 71 - November 21 - November 27

Dear Grace and William,

Well ... we were ready for snow ... expected this week.  The snow boots are purchased to go along with your new jackets and snow pants.  And this week, Wednesday, it SNOWED!  Not much snow but enough to cover the ground and overnight.  Harry, the dog was quite happy, jumping up and down outside.

William, you are a cookie monster. Not really, you just love signing and eating cookies so they went underground this week.  No more purple boxes, now they are disguised inside of the Puffs containers.  And you need to eat a decent meal before cookies or no cookies (we are laying down the law!).  Grace, you now show us the eat/I am hungry sign and continue to master the signs from last week and previously.  We are seeing a sharper more sign with your finger tips not just clapping your hands together.  William is showing us his versions of cat, train, shoes, and cracker.

You wore your Christmas best for photos this week. We went on a day when you both seemed to feel okay, no fevers, coughing not too bad.  William, your spirits were pretty good unlike your sister, who wanted little to do with a group photo.  Hopefully next week the photos we selected will show your wonderful side.  Your outfits this year are very sweet and comfy too.  Mommy searched high and low to find shoes other than dress shoes for you, William.  Grace, you made out -- cute and dressy clothes and shoes are abundant for girls.

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year at Elizabeth's house.  We had the usual fixings and a few new items too.  If we counted correctly, 15 of us ate together.  It was strange yet relaxing not to have to clean up; instead, we played with you, watched you play with Lina and met a couple of new dogs, Sebastian and Misha.

Stairs ... the house is filled with them and you both are beginning to conquer them.  Thank goodness for a short set of two then a landing to practice before the full flight on the side of the house (where you tend to walk around the most).  If an adult is close by, neither of you sit and straddle down one stair at a time -- you leap into our arms (and quite a leap of faith that we catch you).  Otherwise, you are appropriately curious and cautious of stairs and sit and shimmy down ... unless you slip and land on your head on the landing.  We decided to lay a rug with lots of padding under at the landing and move the runner from downstairs in front of the front door to the hallway between your bedroom doors.  Dada also hung your pictures in your room, William and Mommy placed fairy wallies on your walls, Grace.

And we could not end the week without a fever that required a visit to Maine Medical.  Thank goodness the emergency department now has an area for pediatric patients and with a fever of 102.8, off we all went.  Grace, you slept in your stroller most of the time (no fever) and William, you were Mr Out-of It. The Emla cream does wonders so when your port was accessed, you do not even wince.  First came the blood culture, then the antibiotics and finally Tylenol.  When we left two hours later, your fever was an even 100 and your red and white blood counts were normal.  We have two days waiting to see if the culture shows any germs.

Dada is cropping and uploading photos to your website, Harry is laying all over the bed and sighing, and Mommy is getting ready for a long slumber.

We love you,

Mommy and Dada
