Week 70 - November 14 - November 20

Dear babes,

Dada went and came back from Las Vegas.  You both had runny noses and as the week progressed, the coughing got worse.  The last night Dada was gone was the worst for your sleeping or lack thereof.  Oh how we wish you both were not sick.  You kept plugging along -- the naps were either excellent or nonexistent.

Julie, the OT, was here with Kathleen from CDS.  Two weeks ago, Julie assessed you both and the results are back. William, you are right on the money for your adjusted age, of then 13 months and Grace, you are a dash behind at 11 months adjusted.  Both of you will keep OT appointments -- William at once a month and Grace every two weeks.

The March of Dimes Prematurity Awareness Campaign Moment of Hope celebration was Tuesday evening.  Mommy's company hosted and sponsored the event and Mommy spoke about you two and our experiences after your birth.  It was very difficult to think (again) about the details of your births ... enough to write talking points from which to speak.  It is wonderful that Dada created the website for us to remember the good parts and the hard ones too.  Everyone was very supportive of Mommy (she struggled to get through her comments without crying) and loved seeing you both running around.  You were dressed in the colors of the day -- pink and blue.  It was fantastic to see you so unaware of the reason for our get together, bounding around, laughing, playing.

As the week progressed, so did the colds and fevers.  On Sunday, William, your fever broke 101 and with your port, we need to call the doctor to check in.  Since you were lethargic, you and Dada went to Maine Medical for a blood culture from your port and then antibiotics were given through your port too.  Finally you got Tylenol which brought down the fever.  Mommy and Dada did not realize (or had forgotten) that having a port means that your immune system is not as strong (because you have a foreign body inside of you).

The sign language is really taking off.  We have DVDs called Signing Time.  You both love them and we are learning sign too.  This week, you both showed us you know how to sign dog, milk (William, you learned this sign the week before), and car.  Additionally, William, you also sign cookie, Dada, Grandpa, and book.  You both adapt the signs to what you can do so we adapt back with you.  Each night, before you go to bed you watch a DVD and now we think William, you, may be signing that it is signing time (sometimes it takes a few days for us to catch up your signs with your intentions).

We are tired so imagine us signing, sleep.

We love you,

Dada and Mommy
