Babies - Week 9 - Sept. 13 - Sept. 19

Dearest Grace and William –

We had a lovely week, our last week with Grammy.  She is flying back to California!  She cooked up a storm, putting food in Mommy and Dada’s freezer so we don’t starve after she leaves.  Don’t worry, soon Dada’s Dad and at least one of Dada’s sisters will be coming for a visit!  And, we’ll get Grammy back again soon!

Katherine, your nanny, was sick this week with a cold so she will start working with us next week and we look forward to having her be a part of our family.

You enjoyed visits from Elly, the nurse, and Susan, the OT, of Visiting Nurses this week.  Elly is thrilled with your weight gain (and wonders if her scale is correct).  William, you now weigh 8lbs, 15oz (up from 7lbs, 7oz when you went for your two month check-up on September 7th), and Grace, your weight is a petite 7lbs, 10oz (up from 6lbs, 9oz).  We are so happy!  And William, you did great with your heel stick and Elly called to check up on you.

Susan witnessed many wonderful newborn and one-to-six month behaviors in both of you during her visit.  She is very pleased with your progress especially Grace’s neat eating (although this is a rarity)!  Next week, Susan will be back to work with you both and be in-serviced by Glen, the hematology nurse.  We are very lucky to have such caring and committed Visiting Nurses staff – kudos to them!

You both still have thrush so we continue the Diflucan and have decided to go natural – and try Baby-dophilus too.  We will lick this soon!

Dada and I attended a “baby basics” class at Maine Medical Center. We were scheduled to attend this class before you were born but then you came so early.  We learned baby CPR just in case you decide to eat a coin – nah!  The other so-to-be parents don’t know what they are in for – caring for their singleton babies.  Dada filled them in; I think much to the chagrin of the course facilitator!

Harry Potter went for two walks this week with Dada.  We are looking forward to a day soon when we, as a family, go to the island or Twin Brook with you (once we don’t need to feed you so often).  Grammy brought home a new and fluffy dog bed for Harry.  We think Harry likes his bed as he already slept on it.  And of course, you both have more books from Grammy!  Oh, how I love reading to you!

I went to visit the CCN nurses who took care of you – Mary, Sue and Lee were working.  Grammy brought goodies from California – we certainly wanted to thank them everything they did to ensure your growth and development and to help prepare us for coming home with you.  Your Dada and I were such novices – we learned how to bathe you, change your diapers, swaddle you, etc. – but not anymore!  When you both are bit more grown, we will take you in for a visit.  For now, they, like others, are watching you on the crib-cam and love seeing your progress.

This week, we celebrated another milestone – you were two months old on the 16th so we celebrated by going out to the Good Table in Cape – our first official outing (another first)!  It was a bit intimidating to us to venture out and wonder if you would enjoy the experience or perhaps cry, so Grammy was with us (as our security blanket) and treated us to dinner too.  We are happy to report that we all fared well and enjoyed yummy food.  Everyone in the restaurant loved seeing you, cooed over you and came by to see you so Saturday we will venture to the Portland Public Market. Grammy loves the soup at Stone Soup!

We enjoyed the company of your adopted aunts, LuAnne and Julianne.  Did you know that LuAnne is a twin – twin B just like you, William!  We enjoyed dinner together, thanks to Grammy’s cooking, and Blue Plum Cake, from your aunts!  You almost had another two visitors this week, Regina and Margaret, but they had a cold.  Hopefully their cold will go away so Regina (Mommy and Dada’s hairstylist) can make a much-needed hair cutting house call soon!

We hope that you grow to love this website and what we write to you.  You are certainly developing into individual little persons and we want you to be able to read about your infancy when you are older.

Dada loves you and I do too,

Mommy
