Week 52 - July 11 - July 17 (1 YEAR OLD)

Dear Grace and William --

This was a busy week.  Mommy took vacation from work most of the week, Auntie Cathi was in town, Grandma Addison arrived at the end of the week, and we readied the house for the party.  Balloons were blown up (thanks Cathi and Carolyn), veggies chopped for spinach dip, broccoli salad and veggies (thanks Mom), chicken and lamb were marinated for kabobs, and cakes were picked up (thanks Karen and Dada).  The weather cooperated for us on Saturday -- a bit humid but overall a very nice, sunny day.

It is hard to believe that you both were born eight weeks premature.  Next week, you both see Dr Steve for your one-year check ups so we will know your heights and weights.  Mommy guesses that you, William probably weigh about 23 lbs and more than 30 inches tall; Grace, you are probably about  20 lbs and close to 27 inches tall.

This week was filled with more firsts -- Grace, you figured out how to pull off your diaper and wow, what a mess you left in your crib!  Your bedroom is finished Grace -- and it looks great.  Dada even installed your air conditioner which helps to cool the front of the house; William, your room is officially under construction and we hope it will be finished next week.  We hired a gardener to spiff up the gardens and remove the weeds!  Both Elizabeth and Natasha say that you, William, took an independent step in your pack-n-play (Mommy says nah since she has not seen it with her own eyes!).

Your birthday party was great fun -- from the planning, talking with friends who could and could not attend before Saturday, selecting cakes and the menu, etc.  Many folks were very generous with cards, gifts and books.  We will update your book list as you both made out like bandits!  You both received two blankets and a quilt.  Grandma Jan made one of your blankets and Natasha made the other.  Both of these ladies are very talented using polarfleece, scissors, and knots -- wow!  Your quilts are very unique and contain a few dozen pictures of you onto flannel material.  Elizabeth's Mom, Carolyn created these masterpieces obviously with love and patience.  We hope to hang these quilts on your walls to enjoy!

Most of your gifts are soft or semi-soft sided.  Mommy and Dada probably violated the request for soft toys buying you a half-octive xylophone and learning drum.  You seem to enjoy the noise that toys make!  Your Grandma Addison bought a counting doll and musical worm for you both, Aunt Robin sent animal puppets that sing and bath letters, Aunt Richelle wants you two to read, read, read and sent Border's gift certificates, Uncle Robert bought cute outfits.  Grammy sent dolls with buttons and zippers, soft stackable blocks, boo-boo buddies, and soft books that make noise when you press and a cute book about a poodle.

Everyone at your party sung happy birthday to each of you and then you saw your cakes.  We think that you, William, were overwhelmed by the attention and tired so you enjoyed your cake after a nap (after the party too).  Grace, you were quite the ham, eating the cake with your hands and mouth and laughing.  It was a fun time.

We love you, our one-year olds,

Dada and Mommy
