Babies - Week 20 - Nov. 29 - Dec. 5

Dear Babes,

It is official -- our first snowfall, about three inches this week.  Very pretty!  Katherine kept you inside for this storm.  When there is a big storm, hopefully we can make a snowman and snow angels!

You survived the other two shots from your four-month visit.  The HIB was the problematic one for each of you -- and on Sunday, one week later, you both still have small lumps in your right legs.  Theresa, the PT, came to the house and said that you, William, have no homework.  Your development is coming right along.  Grace, we are still working on a few things and worrying your parents with your arching.  Perhaps it is just GERD, very common with preemies, so the professionals say.  You are now on liquid Pepcid to see if you are arching to get away from the GERD, as it seems that you spit up and arch around the same time.

Grammy and Poppa went back to California Tuesday.  Boy, they loved spending time with you -- feeding you, changing you, holding you.  Almost the entire trip, you both wore clothing courtesy of Grammy and were styling!

Dada and Katherine saw that you, William, were bleeding from your gums during a weekday (Mommy was already at work).  You both have really found that your fingers fit nicely in your mouths!  Anyway, after icing with the All Betters ice pack Grammy sent out, the bleeding and oozing went away.  Miraculous for an issue in the mouth where it is tough for a fibrin clot to form.  We are so thankful though!

You both are sleeping both better and worse these days.  People ask Mommy at work how the sleeping is coming and some days it is great, others it is like the old days (and tough for your parents!).  Saturday night was great -- after initially not wanting to sleep, Grace, you ate about 8:30pm and then off to bed.  William, you stirred until 9:30pm or so.  Then we were up between 1:30-2am and then not again until 5:30am or so.  Grace, you napped beautifully in the morning after eating until 11am or so.  William, was the awake boy and loves laying/attempting to sit in the Boppy.  You are now sleeping though, at noon.

We had fun at the Maine Hemophilia support group holiday party Saturday.  Mommy and Dada met lots of people who live in Southern Maine and New Hampshire.  Santa came to visit and gave you both Glow worms.  You love them.  They light up and play songs.  You both have even figured out how to get the light to work.  We met a very nice couple from Lewiston -- the husband has hemophilia and reminds Mommy of Mommy's Dad.  Very gentle man, very kind.  Oh how Mommy wishes you both could have know your Grandpa Kuhn.

Mommy and Dada, mostly Mommy, are struggling with the work and time commitments and how our lives have changed having you.  We love you very much -- we continue to marvel at the amount of time it takes to care for you.  Sometimes, we get to your bedtime and have not dinner ourselves.  It can be overwhelming at times.  Thank goodness for our friends who are so helpful with babysitting, not to mention Katherine!

Dada finished painting the pickets for the fencing around our front yard and the neighborhood gazebo and Mommy packaged up the clothes you cannot wear any longer.  We will take the preemie clothes and matching boy/girl 0-3 month clothing to the Continuing Care Nursery at MMC next week.  Some of the really cute girl 0-3 month sleepers, Onesies, bottles, and blankets will be shipped to one of Grammy's friends' daughter who is having a little girl later this month.  We are so thrilled to be able to share with others.

Mommy is about half through with Christmas shopping -- we better hurry, time is running out.  On that note, we are off to buy a Christmas tree, a balsam, with you.  Another first!

All our love,

Dada and Mommy
