Babies - Week 12 - Oct. 4 - Oct. 10

Dear babes,

You continue to amaze everyone with your weight gain and physical development.  Grace, you are over the eight pound mark, at 8lbs, 1/2oz; William, you weight 9lbs, 4oz.  Wow – who would have thought that in July you both started at 3lbs, 15oz!  What great improvement!

Your RSV shots have been ordered and soon we will go to the doctor’s office for at least the first shot.  We think that you, William, will need two shots, as you are such a big boy.  Elly, the visiting nurse, will give you the other shots every 28-30 days until May next year.

Your Dada has been doing research on shots in general.  There are many theories on potential side effects, which can be life-long lasting and scare us.  We are trying to remember that these effects are only theories and have not proven.  There is one shot that seems to be the most potentially problematic (the DPT booster at 18 months); we may delay this shot until 24 months when your system is said to be better developed to tolerate it.

We all went to William’s first hemophilia clinic appointment.  Dr Rossi (hematologist), Dale (genetics counselor) and Glen (nurse) saw William and talked with us all, including Katherine.  Grace, you slept beautifully, William, you were good and hungry.  Dr Rossi wanted to take you home!

You both love your tummy time and sleeping on your stomach.  In fact, we removed your crib bumper pads so you don’t get caught up on them as you move and wiggle around your cribs. We are amazed that you are able to roll over (not ever time but we catch you sleeping every few days on your belly) in your cribs.  Katherine works with you during the week on your exercises and Mommy and Dada work with you on the weekend.  In fact, your OT specialist, Susan, has given us “advanced” exercises to work you on, as you both are developing at your chronological age (12 weeks), rather than your adjusted age (4 weeks).

Your Grandpa and Aunt Robin came for a visit.  They loved caring for you and we loved having them.  We went to the Falmouth Sea Grill and ate lobster outside!  Then we all enjoyed Flatbread pizza together -- and we also enjoyed a ferry ride to Peaks Island.  They insisted that Mommy and Dada take naps and get out together.  We enjoyed dinner and a movie and came home poopered!  In fact, other than the overnights, Grandpa and Robin cared for you -- changed diapers, fed you and loved you!  It was nice to look at you both while others who love you were holding you!

Mommy went back to work for two days this week – and whew, the emails seem to be endless at work.  Thank goodness for Carolyn, who helped Mommy categorize/prioritize emails or Mommy would be even more overwhelmed.  Mommy received a very warm welcome from her friends and colleagues at Anthem BCBS.  It was nice to have a different focus and a tad bit of adult conversation provide balance.  Next week, Mommy works a bit more and then the following week, Mommy is back full-time.

The nights are cooling off – winter is coming.  We are dressing you more warmly overnight and have turned on the heat!  Bummer for those of us who love the summers in Maine!

We love you,

Mommy and Dada
