Babies - Week 11 - Sept. 27 - Oct. 3

Dear Milk Mouth and Bucket O’Fuss (aka Grace and William),

Mommy and Dada tried separate cribs this week for you – and you did pretty well being on your own.  Your sleep schedules are ever-changing and incredibly inconsistent.  We need to always remember that you are really three weeks old (adjusted), not the 11 it shows on your birth certificates.  Grace, one night you slept nearly six hours uninterrupted – you may be taking after your Mom, who really enjoys her sleep.  And William is definitely the cuddly boy, coined by Katherine.  We decided to begin reading the No-Cry Sleep Solution book so you can begin to learn to sleep and not cry!  It's a 10 step process and we are challenged to find time to read the book -- much less implement a solution for each of you!

The weather last week was beautiful so we fed you outside a few times, with a lovely view of the water from the front porch  You seem to really enjoy being outside, except when the sun hits your delicate eyes!

Grandma Jan and Grandpa sent lovely receiving blankets – Jan is very talented.  Two of your blankets have poodle prints on them!  Harry loves the blankets too!  And next week, Grandpa and Aunt Robin will be visiting.  Yea, more company to dot on you both!

We 86’ed the diaper service, much to our dismay.  Since we are blessed with two of you, folding diapers in the middle of the night was too much for your bleary-eyed parents.  Besides, old-fashioned diapers do not wick away as well – and you both are very proficient at emptying your bodies!

You both learned how to turn onto your tummies this week.  Grace is definitely the star in this area, turning probably two dozen times – both during tummy time with Katherine or Mommy and at night in your crib, which worries us.  William, you do very well and enjoy holding your head up when at our shoulders and tummy time.  From a physical development perspective, Theresa (PT) and Susan (OT) say you both are displaying 2-3 month behaviors – yea!

Elly is also very pleased as you both are a-gaining weight.  Grace, our petite one, you are just over the eight pound mark, at 8lb, 1/2oz, while William is now 9lbs, 4oz.  Your first RSV shot, Synagis, has  been ordered by Dr Steve and as soon as next week, we should be going to his office for the first shot.  There are some very serious side effects, among them anaphylaxis and for you,William, your doctor wants to monitor the injection site (as the shot is a thick substance and is reconstituted just like your Factor).  After you both have no reactions to the shot (which we fully expect), you will receive all future shots at home by Elly, the nurse from Visiting Nurses.  She really loves her job -- and has taken quite an interest in you both.  Did you know that she is a twin as well?  Elly and William -- both twin Bs!

William, you had your first hemophilia clinic visit -- and met Dr Rossi again, plus Dale, the genetic counselor, and you already know Glen, the hematology nurse.  Everyone says you are in great shape for a boy your age.  Dr Rossi held you tight for a while -- we think she wants another baby!  Dada and Mommy had a bit of fun with Dale, especially when it came time to remember our grandparents and great-grandparents -- where we came from, what aliments we have, etc.  Grace was a sleepy girl and showed everyone how good she was -- and William, you showed us your strength as an excellent eater!

We have such wonderful friends – some of which are “signing up” for respite duty and Mommy and Dada are very appreciative.  And we are enjoying yummy dinners too!

Dada enjoyed his birthday this week – and made out like a bandit!  Now he and Mommy are the same age for a couple of months anyway!

Thanks to Katherine, your wonderful nanny, who gave your Dada a night out on the town as his birthday gift. He took Mommy to a movie and of course, she loves anything with baseball, so we enjoyed Mr 3000!

We love you both,

Dada and Mommy – and Harry and Sarah too
