Babies - Day 44 - August 28, 2004

Dearest Princess Grace and Prince William,

We love you so much. Each of you has ten fingers and ten toes, two ears and two eyes, two arms and two legs, and one voice, sometimes loud. You are perfect to us in every way.  We watch you in your crib -- actually you both are sharing William's crib for now -- sleeping, cooing, and stretching.

It's day four at home and Mommy and Dada are coping pretty well now (or so we think).  We have managed to change your diapers every three hours or more often, take your temperatures occasionally, change your clothes when you spit up, get some sleep and eat somewhat regularly.  We have the usual concerns -- are you eating enough, it's a bummer about both of you getting thrush (and having to eat awful-tasting liquid medicine), are we regulating your body temperatures with the hot temps in the past day or so, etc.  Mommy is watching her body for signs of thrush as it is very easily passed from you rugrats to her and back.  Dada is running to the pharmacy for us -- it's only the beginning!

Nancy, the pediatric nurse, just left the house for a home visit.  We talked a bit about RSV since you are preemies and the shots begin in October.  We promised to send information to people who want to visit or want you to visit them, so they can understand how susceptible you are to this virus -- and help in making a determination if they should visit at this time.  Since you have a loyal following of family and friends, we will include Internet information for people to read. And since your physician is making house calls, we will keep you in your home environment for now to flourish -- eat, sleep and grow!  With the very hot temps recently, it is great to be in our air-conditioned house.

Yippee -- you both have gained weight since Wednesday and we think Nancy was a bit surprised by your progress!  Grace, you are up three ounces, to 5lbs, 10oz, while William is up five ounces to 6lbs, 5oz.  In fact, our nurse home visits may be reduced to once per week after Dr Steve visits the house next Monday or Tuesday.  Your oxygen saturations are good, as are your temps.

Your cousin, August, called today to say hello and ask for a sleep over.  Imagine this -- your first sleep over invitation at six weeks!  He is a big boy at five years and starts kindergarten next week.  We appreciate that your Auntie Judi is monitoring August for little boy germs -- we want him to keep them!  Hopefully when Grammy gets here, August will come over for a visit.

You have many special family and friends watching your development.  In fact, some of them have sent wonderful gifts.  Since last week you have been enjoying two new classical CDs, outfits, and bath towels.  We are very lucky to have such special people in our lives.

We love you with all our hearts,

Mommy and Dada
